FAQ

What is therapy?

Therapy is a safe space for you to talk about anything going on in your life with a trained mental health professional. Therapy provides a place to feel heard without any judgment attached. During your online therapy session with one of the therapists at Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group, you will get the opportunity to learn tools and skills on how to live your best life and overcome any challenges you are facing. Therapy is available to children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Please contact us for a free consultation to learn more about our services.

What are the benefits of therapy?

Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental place for you to work through any challenges you are having in your life. What you talk about in your online therapy session is confidential, which gives you a chance to speak candidly and honestly with someone who is unbiased and has no stake in your life. Your therapist will help you create a game plan for progress and give you tools to empower yourself to become the best version of yourself. Therapy is not exclusive to any type of person or type of mental health concern. At Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group, we truly believe that anyone can benefit from therapy.

Where is your office located?

Right now, Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group operates entirely online! We offer video therapy through secure platforms like Zoom, Psychology Today and Simple Practice. Our clients have shared that they find virtual therapy to be incredibly convenient. Instead of scouring the internet for “therapy near me,” we can provide you with the support you need in the comfort of your own home. You can get cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), marriage or relationship counseling, or any other types of mental health assistance through telehealth. All of the video platforms we use are safe, secure, and HIPAA compliant. We will connect you with a therapist who will see you on your lunch break, after work, or whenever is convenient for you, right on your computer, phone or tablet.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth is a platform that allows you to receive therapy online. It is HIPPA-compliant, safe, secure, and easy to use. Your sessions and information are completely private and confidential. Telehealth essentially allows you to have a video chat with your clinician so that you don’t have to drive to an office. This platform increases scheduling flexibility and allows you to do your online therapy from a comfortable place. There is no difference in the care you will get. The only change is that you won’t be sitting in a therapist office. Research shows teletherapy is just as effective as traditional in person therapy.

How long are online therapy sessions?

Every session is about 50 minutes long. During each online therapy session, you and your therapist will talk about your concerns and figure out how to make progress towards your goals. These sessions offer a perfect amount of time to get you the support you need without taking up too much of your day. You can even schedule therapy during a work break. At Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group we know that life can be busy, so we are excited to be able to offer flexible scheduling hours to our clients. You can see your therapist weekly, biweekly or monthly, whatever works best for you.

Does online therapy really work?

It absolutely does. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group has been providing virtual counseling through secure online platforms to our clients. Some of these platforms include Zoom, Psychology Today, Simple Practice and more. Your online therapy sessions and information are completely private and confidential, and you will get the same exact assistance from us online as you would in person. The only difference is that you have the flexibility to do it from your own home. We can still provide CBT Therapy (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT Therapy (dialectical behavior therapy), individual therapy, family/group therapy, and more through the computer. All of our psychotherapists use HIPAA-compliant platforms that are completely safe and confidential.

Offering therapy online also helps our team reach a wider range of people. Instead of searching for “therapy near me,” you don’t have to worry about the drive to therapy. It also allows us to give you more availability. Whether you live in Sherman Oaks, San Francisco, Calabasas, Los Angeles, or anywhere else in the Golden State, we are licensed to give you the mental health care and assistance that you deserve. Our clients truly appreciate the flexibility that comes with online therapy.

Do you have evening appointments available?

Yes, we do! One of the reasons we created Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group was to offer more flexibility to our clients. We offer online therapy in California, which allows us to give our clients more appointment availability. Whether you want to do therapy during your lunch break, after work, between meetings, or any other time, we are here to make sure you can get access to the therapy you need. When you contact us, we will help you find a therapist who can accommodate both your mental health concerns and scheduling needs.

Do you offer adolescent therapy?

We do offer adolescent therapy (or child therapy/teen therapy). We know that adolescence is both a challenging and exciting time. Clarity Counseling and Therapist Group has psychotherapists who specialize in all life stages and are here to support your children as they tackle life’s problems and challenges. Our team can help with panic attacks, peer pressure, substance abuse, confidence boosting, OCD treatment, anxiety and much more. Even though parents are an excellent resource for children, a lot of our adolescent clients express that they appreciate having an unbiased, non-judgmental outlet with an online therapist. We also offer family therapy to assist in the parent/child and sibling dynamics. Please give us a call to see if one of our therapists would be a good fit for your child.

Do you offer couples therapy or marriage counseling?

Yes, we do. If you have been searching the internet for “couples therapy near me,” you have found the right place. Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group has multiple therapists who are trained to assist in marriage counseling and couples therapy. Our psychotherapists are also trained in the Gottman Method, which is one of the leading approaches to couples counseling. We will provide a non-judgmental, safe space for you and your partner to discuss your concerns and work towards your goals.

Plus, if you are struggling with another relationship in your life (siblings, parents, friends, etc), we can also provide online therapy to help with other important relationships in your life.

What is the best type of therapy?

At Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group, we don’t believe there is a “best” type of therapy. Instead, we tailor your session to what modalities of therapy are best for you. Your psychotherapist will be able to tell you which type of therapy is best for you based on your concerns. All members of our team use an eclectic approach utilizing many different modalities to customize your treatment. We can help you with CBT therapy, DBT therapy, humanistic/experiential therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and much more. To us, the best kind of therapy is the type of treatment that helps you. And if we know anything, it is that everyone needs something different.

What happens in a therapy session?

You are always in the drivers seat when it comes to your online therapy session. You get to decide what you and your psychotherapist discuss and what your goals are. Typically, you will start the session by discussing things that have come up since your last session. Then, you will go over any “homework” or things you have been working on. From there, you will continue to have conversations that work towards your goals. At the end of the day, therapy sessions are here to provide you support and be a safe, confidential space for you to become your best self.

How do I find the right therapist for me?

It can be hard to find a therapist who is a great fit for you. That is why we have created a group of therapists to give you more options for your care. The most important thing about online therapy is making sure you are comfortable with the clinician you are working with. That is why we offer a free, 15 minute phone consultation so that you can get to know our team a little better. Rest assured, we want you to end up with the therapist that is best for you and your particular concerns. If a member of our team is not the right therapist for you, we will gladly help you find what it is you are looking for. We are here to support you!

How long will I be in therapy?

This entirely depends on your needs and desires. Some people need one total session, and other people can be in therapy for many years. There is no right or wrong amount of time to be in therapy. Our psychotherapists can guide you to what they think may be best for you. Ultimately you are the one who gets to decide how long you continue therapy. The hope is as you continue sessions, you will gain the knowledge, tools, and confidence to help yourself conquer whatever it is that brought you to our therapy group in the first place. Clarity Counseling and Therapy Group is here to support you for however long or short you need us.

Do you take insurance?

We are contracted with several insurance companies. If we do not work directly with your insurance company, we will gladly provide a monthly Superbill to submit to your insurance. Many insurance companies offer reimbursement to their subscribers. You will be responsible for all session costs up front.

If you have concerns about your confidentiality, prefer to not have the required mental health disorder diagnosis on your insurance record, or other concerns, we accept private pay with no insurance involvement.

What are the benefits to using insurance vs not (self pay)?

There are benefits to using your insurance to receive therapy. Most insurance companies allow the same benefits for mental health as they do physical health. You will be responsible for your copay as well as meeting any deductible that applies with your plan. Using insurance is the most cost effective way to receive care.

Self pay, or not using insurance, also has benefits. Insurance companies require “medical necessity” to see a therapist as well as ongoing proof you need to continue to be in therapy. Insurance companies also require a diagnosis code that will be visible on your medical record. Many clients prefer to keep this information confidential and separate from their physical health records. When using insurance, insurance companies can request a copy of your mental health records from your therapist at any time.
